Today’s Writing Prompt: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
I am really looking forward to this Christmas. Last year my then fiancé and I had COVID so we couldn’t spend it together. Fortunately, we both were mostly asymptomatic and recovered effortlessly. This year, we plan to really go all out. We started decorating the first of November because we got into the Christmas spirit early.
For today’s writing prompt, write about the best holiday you have ever had, or hope to have. Let your imagination go wild. Write about the location, the gifts, the people, and or course, how you feel.
Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to participate in a pivotal point in history? What what it have been like as a conductor on the Underground Railroad? Have you ever wondered how the ancient pyramids were constructed? Write about what it would have been like for you.
I really don’t have any memorable road trips that were taken just for the reason of having a road trip. My trips usually have a specific purpose like a visit or to attend an event. I have always wanted to just jump in the car to no particular destination. I would love to take a few weeks of just traveling to see the country.
For today’s writing prompt, write about an epic road trip. Get very detailed. Who will go with you? What will pack? What vehicle will you drive? For how long will you be traveling?
Have fun with it. Maybe it will inspire you to make it a reality.
Today’s Writing Prompt: What do you want to be when you grow up?
I recognize that many of you who will be reading this post are probably already grownups. I work in higher education and I often ask the young adults I counsel, “What to you want to be when you grow up?” We often have ideas of how certain jobs lack financial stability or may not live up to the expectations of others. Many of us have had careers for many years, but there was that one thing or job that you always wanted to have. A dream job.
For this writing prompt, write about your dream job. What would you daily activities be? How would your life be different? Who knows, you may be inspired to take a leap of faith and follow your dreams.
Today’s writing prompt came to me this morning as I was taking my son to school. My son shares my love of reading and writing. He is presently working on a story and he asked for my input. While we were talking, we both mentioned how we wanted to write a horror story. I suggested a collaboration. He was so excited and so was I! I think this would be a great bonding experience.
You may not have a child or someone close who shares your passion for writing, but check just in case. Consider a collaboration with a friend or family member. It could be a fan fiction or just something for fun that no one else will see.
I am constantly commenting on how much we are tied to our phones both literally and figuratively. I work in higher education, and I remember when I was a student sitting outside on campus on a nice day with a book and seeing other students doing the same. Now everyone is on their phones. I must admit that I spend a great deal of time on my phone as well. So for this writing prompt, we will put our phones to use.
For this writing prompt, take a picture or text from your phone and write a story about it. Make up an entirely different situation or expand on it.
Today’s Writing Prompt: What are you thankful for?
Today’s writing prompt is a little different. I would like for us to write a list of all the things we are thankful for.
This year I have started a daily gratitude journal. Each day write 10 things I am grateful for. I have asked some of my friends and family to start the practice well. Sometimes they tell me it is hard to come up with 10 things each day. Oftentimes we take many of the small things for granted, but we should take time to acknowledge their importance and express gratitude for them. For instance, my love of reading and writing began at a very early age. Way back in the 1900s, when I wanted a book, I either had to order it from a catalog and wait for it in the mail, get it from a library (if they had it, or if it wasn’t checked out by someone else), or buy it in a store. Now, as soon as a book is released, I can download it and begin reading it instantly! Isn’t that something to be thankful for? When you think about it, it is truly amazing.
Also, I started this blog just as a kind of online journal of my thoughts. I didn’t expect to have any followers. As of today, I have over 1500! That may not be a lot to some, but it is to me. For that I am grateful.
Thank you to all my followers and those of you who stop to read my posts.
